Starcraft Tabletop Miniature Game Protoss Project : Sentry

Hello everyone,

Here is the final Protoss unit in our 1,500 points army list. It will take to the battlefield in our upcoming battle report featuring the Zerg versus the Protoss. If everything goes according to plan, you should be able to watch it next week.

Now, let’s take a look at its rules. Sentry are a support unit and require a bit more finesse to use effectively than some of the other units. They are primarily designed to support your troops, as reflected by their Restoration ability, which removes negative effects (debuffs) from friendly miniatures within 4 inches.

Their Guardian Shield ability also reduces enemy ranged attacks against friendly units within 4 inches of the Sentry by one die. Finally, just like in the video game, they can generate Force Fields to block movement and control the flow of the battlefield.

That said, don’t expect them to deal heavy damage, that simply isn’t their role. Sentinels excel at supporting allied units and controlling the battlefield, and that’s where they truly shine.

We think both upgrades are well worth considering. Solid-Field Projector allows the Sentry to deploy a second Force Field. Its cost may seem high, but when placed in the right location, Force Fields can significantly hinder your opponent’s movement.

Hallucination, on the other hand, is a reaction that makes nearby units’ saving throws more reliable. Its greatest advantage is that it doesn’t consume any Psionic Points, making it an especially useful ability to keep available throughout the game.

And here are our Sentry, painted in the colors of our army.

What can we say about the Sentry? They’re a unit that certainly has its place, but personally, they don’t particularly excite us. As more units are released, we think they’ll likely see less play unless their rules become more appealing. This is mainly because they’ll soon be competing for the same slot as upcoming units, which may offer greater versatility or simply bring more to the table.
