Hello everyone,

A new battle report is currently being prepared within our playtest group in collaboration with HiigyTv. After previously featuring Terran vs. Zerg and Terran vs. Protoss matchups, it felt only natural for the next episode to showcase a clash between Zerg and Protoss.

Filming is scheduled for July. This time, our role will be more limited, as we won’t be available on the selected filming date. However, you’ll still see our army and our painting work featured on the battlefield. As I am currently the group’s only Protoss player, I will be providing my army to make this new battle report possible.

This match is only one step in our broader project. Our ultimate goal remains the production of full 2,000-point battle reports, where each army can fully unleash its potential and where battles will become even more intense and tactically engaging.

Unfortunately, Archon Studio’s recent announcements and release schedule have disrupted our original plans somewhat. Because the filming date falls too far ahead of the upcoming releases, we won’t be able to include the new units. As a result, we had to adjust our preparations and rethink our initial ambitions. Even so, we wanted to offer something different, both to keep things fresh and to highlight another aspect of the Protoss faction.

In our previous battle report, we chose a Khalai sub-faction list. This gave us access to iconic units such as Artanis, the Praetors, and the Pylon. It was an exceptionally powerful combination, but also a very expensive one in terms of points, as Artanis and his escort alone accounted for nearly 500 points of the army. Rather than repeating a formula that was already familiar, we’ve decided this time to focus on the other Protoss sub-faction: the Daelaam. This choice will allow us to showcase a different playstyle while demonstrating that several strategic approaches can exist within the same faction.

This upcoming battle report therefore requires us to completely rethink our Protoss force. By setting aside our painted Artanis and Praetors models, we immediately lose nearly 500 points’ worth of units. On top of that, the game size has increased to 1,450 points, meaning we need to add another 350 points to the list. In total, we therefore have nearly 850 points of new units to assemble, paint, and prepare before filming day. It’s another major hobby challenge, but also an excellent source of motivation to keep expanding and painting our Protoss collection.

But enough about the preparations and painting goals. Let’s get to the heart of the matter with a detailed look at this new 1,450 points Daelaam army list.

The Daelaam faction allows you to field 1 Elite slot, 3 Core slots, and 1 Support slot, creating an army composition that leans more heavily on core units while still offering excellent tactical flexibility.

The Daelaam’s first faction rule, Dae’Uhl, allows you to reduce incoming damage by 2 (to a minimum of 1) as a reaction. This defensive ability can make all the difference by keeping a key unit alive at the most critical moment of the game. Used wisely, it can completely disrupt your opponent’s plans.

The second rule, Mass Recall, is used during the Movement Phase. Once per game, you may place a marker and return all friendly units within 6 inches of it to Reserve. This ability is particularly powerful, as it not only allows you to catch your opponent off guard, but also gives you the opportunity to completely reshape your strategy based on the mission objectives or the evolving battlefield. It offers tremendous flexibility and can turn the tide of a game that seemed all but lost.

For this 1,450 points army list, we selected four Tactical Cards. As with our previous 1,100 points list, we have kept Forge and Overcharged Nexus. You can find our detailed thoughts on these cards in our article covering the 1,100 points list.

The two new Tactical Cards we have chosen are Gate Chronoboosted and Twilight Council.

Gate Chronoboosted unlocks 1 Elite slot and 1 Core slot. Its first ability, Zealous Charge, increases a unit’s Movement by 2 inches during the Movement Phase. This is an extremely versatile ability, allowing you to quickly seize an objective, reposition a key unit, or set up a more ambitious charge.

Its second ability, Quick Strikes, is used during the Combat Phase and grants Precision 2 to melee attacks. This bonus significantly improves the unit’s reliability in close combat, making its attacks far more consistent.

Twilight Council, meanwhile, unlocks 1 Elite slot and 1 Support slot. Its first ability, Veil of Shadows, allows you to restore 2 Health to a unit after it performs a Place action, as a reaction, regardless of the current phase. It is currently one of the very few ways to heal Protoss units. This ability is especially valuable on Stalkers, allowing them to recover Health after using Blink, making them increasingly resilient as the battle progresses.

Its second ability, Weapons of the Firstborn, increases a unit’s weapon range by 4 inches. The primary beneficiaries are undoubtedly the Stalkers, who become a genuine long-range threat. In an ideal setup, this rule would be even stronger with two units of Stalkers, although this list only includes one. Sentries and Adepts can also benefit from the increased range, even if their ranged attacks are generally less threatening than those of the Stalkers.

With this in mind, we chose to build a larger army that better complements the strengths of the Daelaam sub-faction. Unlike our first battle report, which focused primarily on elite units, this new list places greater emphasis on core units with the addition of Zealots and Sentries, neither of which appeared in our previous army composition. This approach should provide greater battlefield control while offering a noticeably different style of play.

Switching to this sub-faction does, however, mean giving up the Pylon, Artanis, and the Praetors, all of which are significant point investments. Our next challenge is to speed up our painting schedule so we can finish the additional Stalker, the Zealots, and the Sentries needed to make up for those lost points.

We’re excited to see how this new army composition performs on the tabletop and look forward to showcasing it in our upcoming Protoss vs. Zerg battle report, produced in collaboration with HiigyTv and our playtest group.

We won’t go into the details of the rules here, as they will be covered in more depth in the upcoming battle report. If you’re looking for a more didactic introduction to the game system, another battle report focused on discovery and explanation of the core mechanics is also available in this dedicated article.
