Starcraft Tabletop Miniature Game Projet Protoss : 1100 points Army List

Hello everyone,

As part of the preparation for our upcoming battle report against HiigyTV, we wanted to present the army list we’ll be using for the Terran vs Protoss showdown.

This list is mainly intended to serve as a guide for our upcoming painting sessions and the completion of the miniatures needed for the battle report. So you can expect to see plenty of Protoss-related content throughout the week, as most of the units are currently nearing completion.

To begin with, we’re going to introduce the 4 cards we’ll be using to build our army list: 1 faction card and 3 tactical cards.

In addition to providing various bonuses and resources used to activate certain unit abilities, these cards play a key role in shaping your army and influencing your overall approach to the game.

For this list, we chose the Khalai faction card. It allows us to include in our army:

  • 3 Core units
  • 2 Elite units
  • 1 Hero

This card also offers a major strategic advantage thanks to access to the Pylon. In addition to providing an extra target for your opponent, once activated the Pylon becomes an extremely useful deployment point, allowing you to rapidly reinforce the battlefield and maintain pressure on the enemy.

At the moment, we believe this is the only truly competitive faction card available for the Protoss. Since air units are not yet available, the other option currently feels far more limited in terms of impact and tactical flexibility.

The Overcharged Nexus card is an especially powerful addition to our list, granting:

  • 1 Core unit
  • 1 Elite unit

Beyond simply providing an additional Elite slot, the real strength of this card comes from the Photon Overcharge rule. This ability automatically deals 3 damage to any unit entering the battlefield outside of its deployment zone. It’s an excellent way to punish aggressive deep strikes, teleportation plays, or enemy reinforcement mechanics.

The Strategic Recall ability can also prove incredibly useful depending on the situation. In particular, it allows you to quickly reposition a key unit such as Artanis, sending him exactly where he’s needed most on the battlefield.

The Gateway card is more of a support pick in our list. We had some remaining Vespene Gas to spend, and we didn’t really need the additional Core slot it provides.

We mainly selected it for its Precision 2 rule, which helps stabilise melee combat by allowing us to mitigate up to two failed close-combat attacks depending on the situation. This bonus is particularly valuable for Adepts, who typically hit on 4+ even with weapon upgrades.

Finally, we selected the Forge card in order to secure the last required Elite slot for our army composition. This card offers several bonuses that can prove useful depending on the situation. However, its primary role in our list will be to provide the energy needed to activate upgrades and abilities for certain units.

Let’s now move on to the army list itself. We opted for a relatively elite-focused composition, mainly due to painting time constraints. With the battle report approaching, it felt more realistic to concentrate our efforts on a smaller number of units. However, this choice also led us to rely heavily on cards providing Elite slots, as these units make up the core of our force.

We won’t go into the details of the rules here, as they will be covered in more depth in the upcoming battle report. If you’re looking for a more didactic introduction to the game system, another battle report focused on discovery and explanation of the core mechanics is also available in this dedicated article.

And most importantly, while we understand the frustration many of you may feel at not yet being able to play with official StarCraft miniatures, the rules are already freely available on the official website. This means you can absolutely start testing the game right now using simple bases of the correct size.

Since line of sight is handled in 2D, what matters is the unit size indicated on the card, not the physical height of the miniature itself. This makes it very easy to play while waiting for the full release or for your armies to be fully painted and ready.
