Hello everyone,

We’re continuing our family Blood Bowl league project with the new version of the game. Today, we’re taking a look at the Necromantic Horror roster. We’ll go over the main buffs and nerfs introduced in Season 3 compared to the previous version.

Unlike our Lizardmen analysis, which was fairly straightforward (with most improvements focused on the Saurus), the Necromantic roster brings a wider range of adjustments. To begin with, here’s the team composition we’ll be using in our league.

Zombies
Let’s start with the zombies. They can now attempt passes on a 6+. Sure, there’s a good chance the arm goes flying and the ball ends up somewhere completely unexpected… but as always in Blood Bowl, luck can sometimes work in your favor!
They also gain access to the Eye Gouge skill, which can be useful for creating openings or countering opposing skills like Guard.
The most significant improvement, however, is their access to Primary Devious skills. This allows for much more variety in their roles, including more “dirty” playstyles that were previously mostly reserved for ghouls.

Ghouls
Great news here: they now have Regeneration, making them far more durable on the pitch. Their passing ability improves to 3+, turning them into much more reliable throwers.
This makes them more versatile and resilient, without making them overpowered, since passing skills remain secondary.

Wraiths
Very few rule changes, but they benefit from a welcome points cost reduction. They also gain access to the Devious skill category as a secondary option.

Flesh Golems
Like zombies, they can now attempt passes on a 6+ (though this will remain mostly situational). They also get a slight cost reduction and gain access to Devious skills as secondary options.

Werewolves
They also see a slight decrease in cost. They can now pass on a 3+, further enhancing their already strong versatility. Like several other players on the roster, they gain access to Devious skills as a secondary category.

Conclusion and Roster Choices

Overall, the team benefits from a globally positive upgrade. These changes improve flexibility and resilience without making the roster unbalanced.

For our league, we’ve decided to start with:

  • 2 Werewolves right from roster creation to maximize offensive pressure,
  • then add a Ghoul as a 12th player once we’ve built up enough treasury.

We’ll be back very soon with a showcase of the team’s painted miniatures!
