Hello everyone,
In the rich and vibrant universe of Conquest, few aspects of the game showcase its tactical depth and strategic complexity as well as the Draw Events. This mechanic, sitting at the crossroads of dynamic actions and surprise effects, breathes real life into battles, with every single card draw. Don’t forget to check out Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, Chapter 4, Chapter 5, Chapter 6, Chapter 7, Chapter 8, Chapter 9 and Chapter 10 if you haven’t read them yet.
How Draw Events Work:
- Draw a Command Card.
- Check if the corresponding regiment has a Draw Event.
- Choose whether or not to activate it.
- If activated, resolve the effect immediately, before the regiment takes any actions.
An Extra Tactical Layer:
Draw Events are far from being mere passive or secondary effects. They can be powerful assets that drastically alter the course of a turn. Whether it’s a life-saving Biotic Renewal (healing a regiment), a high-risk, high-reward Burnout (granting notable bonuses at the cost of potential HP loss), or the bold and dynamic Double Time (allowing a third March action), each event challenges players to think carefully about timing and how to get the most out of their units.
A special mention goes to Flux-Powered, which perfectly embodies situational unit customization. Choosing between a bonus to Clash or Attacks? That’s the kind of decision that can turn the tide of a melee.
Conquest has done an excellent job making these effects both coherent and balanced, thanks in part to the distinction between (X) and (+X) values, a clever design choice that prevents abuse while still rewarding smart tactical play. The ability to opt out of activating a Draw Event is also a smart addition, giving players more control and further deepening the strategic layer of the draw system.
Subtle Interactions with Special Rules
What’s truly fascinating is how seamlessly Draw Events integrate with Special Rules. For example, Burnout pairs beautifully with a regiment that has Flurry (re-rolling failed to-hit rolls), maximizing its offensive potential. Meanwhile, Murderous Volley (which can trigger Morale Tests on ranged attacks under certain conditions) becomes even deadlier when used by units with Precise Shot (1s bypass Defense) or Deadly Shot (Defense rolls of 6 cause double damage).
This dynamic between temporary effects (Draw Events, usable once per turn) and permanent abilities (Special Rules, always active or triggered during specific actions) makes each regiment’s activation both strategic and exciting. Every decision matters — and any one of them can shift the tide of battle.
While the full list of Special Rules is available in the rulebook, the Conquest Companion app makes them easily accessible for each unit, saving valuable time and sparing you from constantly flipping pages mid-game.
Ultimately, the Draw Events section is far more than just a rules add-on — it’s a true tactical engine within Conquest. It brings pace, surprise, and above all, it encourages players to think beyond straightforward combat. A brilliant addition that once again showcases the ambition and elegance of Para Bellum’s game design.
