Hello everyone!
Now that we’ve presented the project along with a brief history related to it, it’s time to move on to the painting phase.
We took inspiration from the icon of the Sentinels to define the color scheme. Anthracite grey and a dark jade blue were chosen as the main tones, giving the army a unified and coherent look. For the metallic parts, we went with a mix of gold and verdigris to enhance the ancient and mystical feel. Certain areas (meant to represent gemstones) are also highlighted with a deep blue reminiscent of Egyptian blue, referencing lapis lazuli. The remaining colors stay fairly classic for depicting undead or skeletal figures.
Since this is a prince from the dynasty of King Ophtos, we chose to paint a green glow on the faces of the key characters, symbolizing the magic that imbues them. For this project, we explored a new painting technique: starting with a Wraithbone base coat, and working primarily with washes. We’ll do our best to share a general painting tutorial for this army as the project progresses.
Prince Ophtos II is the direct descendant of King Ophtos. Appointed by his father, he was entrusted with leading the Sentinels’ contingent alongside Settra, as described in the faction’s background featured in this article. We chose not to involve Ophtos himself in the conflict, as he must continue his mission of guarding the Black Pyramid of Nagash, a duty that remains an absolute priority.
What’s next?
To keep the project moving forward, we’ve begun assembling our unit of 20 Tomb Guard while we wait for the remaining troops to be printed. We’re also eagerly awaiting the release of the new plastic Liche Priest kit recently announced by Games Workshop, which will add a powerful hero to our force.
