Hello everyone,
Today, we wanted to take a step back and talk to you about our experience, our goals when it comes to multi-gaming, and, most importantly, how we see its future on the blog.
As you may have noticed throughout the blog’s existence, we have gradually started covering an increasingly wide variety of games. Games Workshop games, StarCraft, A Song of Ice & Fire, and many other universes have all found their place among our articles.
This diversity is both a strength and a real challenge.
Beyond the obvious financial constraint of being interested in several different games, another question quickly arises: how much time can we realistically devote to each of them?
For the time being, despite a few occasional helping hands and the sharing of content resulting from our involvement in certain projects, such as the one surrounding StarCraft Miniatures Game, the regular production of content essentially relies on one person.
We have always wanted to open the blog up more to other motivated hobbyists. We would love to be able to share different perspectives on the hobby, welcome new players, and give everyone the opportunity to showcase their projects, experiences, and favourite games.
But for now, aside from a few occasional contributions, we have not yet really found the community-driven formula that would allow us to operate that way.
And that inevitably leads us to question how we want to develop the blog.
We want to continue developing the different universes that interest us: Games Workshop games, StarCraft, A Song of Ice & Fire, and others. The issue is therefore absolutely not a lack of enthusiasm.
The problem is time.
Painting an army takes time. Building, decorating, and setting up a gaming table takes even more. Finding available players, organising a game, taking photos, writing a battle report, and then putting everything together for the blog can ultimately represent several hours of work.
And when you multiply that organisation by the number of games we want to follow, the task quickly becomes a real challenge.
This is also why we have gradually fallen behind on certain types of content. Book reviews, as well as battle reports featuring beautiful tables, have become much harder to produce on a regular basis.
Sometimes, we have spent so much time preparing a game or a project that the article meant to come out of it was eventually postponed… and then postponed again. Obviously, that is not the direction we want to take.
We therefore believe it is time to refocus on the projects that are actually underway.
The goal is not to abandon the diversity that is part of the blog’s identity. Quite the opposite: we want to continue discovering new games and talking about the things that interest us.
But we need to learn to distinguish between the games we actually play, the projects we genuinely want to develop, the games we would like to discover someday, and those we simply keep accumulating because they look appealing.
That distinction is important.
We still have an enormous number of ideas and projects we would like to pursue. For example, we would love to get into Holomoc, Caeris, Dropfleet Commander, and many other games.
But, if we are being honest, we cannot spread ourselves any thinner.
Every new game potentially means a new army to paint, new miniatures to assemble, rules to learn, equipment to acquire, a table to prepare, and, above all, time to devote to all of it.
We therefore have to accept that some projects will probably remain ideas rather than becoming fully-fledged projects.
So we have started doing a bit of house cleaning among our projects.
Some of them have been around for a long time and, despite our initial enthusiasm, we now know that they will probably never see the light of day. Rather than continuing to keep them around as projects “on hold”, we would rather turn the page and focus on what genuinely motivates us today.
Along the same lines, we have also started putting together a clearer list of our current hobby projects.
That list will need to be updated soon, as it no longer fully reflects the current situation. We have accumulated some projects over the years, and it is time to take stock, finish what can be finished, abandon what probably never will be, and, above all, find a clear sense of direction again.
The goal is simple: less dispersion, more completed projects.
This does not mean that the blog is going to become a website dedicated to a single game.
Multi-gaming remains an important part of our identity, and we will continue talking about different universes. However, from now on, we want to take a more realistic and sustainable approach.
We would rather regularly provide content about a few projects that we genuinely follow than constantly introduce new games without being able to properly support them afterwards.
We also want to make more room again for the things we particularly enjoy: the hobby itself, painting, gaming table creation, scenery, battle reports, reading, and, more generally, everything that helps tell a real story and experience around a game.
Because ultimately, that is probably what we want to do with this blog: tell the story of our projects rather than simply accumulate games.
So we will keep moving forward, testing, painting, building, and sometimes changing direction. Some projects will disappear, others will become more important, and new ones will undoubtedly appear along the way. But this time, we are going to try to keep our tendency to spread ourselves too thin under better control.
Thank you to everyone who has been following the blog since its early days, to those who take the time to read our articles, leave comments, share their experiences, or lend us a hand on certain projects.
And above all, if you are a hobbyist who would like to share your projects, games, painting, or perspective on a particular game, the door is still wide open. The blog was never meant to be just our own space: we would still love to make it a place where several enthusiasts can share their experiences. We simply need to find the right way to bring that community to life.
In the meantime, we have work to do: finish the projects currently underway, update our hobby project list… and, above all, get back to painting!
