Hello everyone,
Today we’re continuing to share content from our testing group, featuring Antouam’s impressive Zerg army. He developed a scheme that is both efficient and fast, especially to be ready in time for the Zerg vs Terran battle report.
We won’t go into as much detail as in some of our previous tutorials. The goal here is to give you a clear guideline along with the paint references used, so you can get as close as possible to the Zergling shown below.
Preparation
Apply a zenithal undercoat (black, then white from above) to establish volumes.
Carapace
Paints:
- Flesh Tearers Red – Citadel – 29-13
- Sun Red – AK Interactive – AK11279
- Dead Red – AK Interactive – AK11083
Steps:
Apply Flesh Tearers Red with an airbrush for the base.
Then, using a brush, work with a mix of Sun Red and Dead Red to highlight edges and volumes.
Skin
Paints:
- Basic Skin Tone – AK Interactive – AK11052
- Light Flesh – AK Interactive – AK11050
- Fyreslayer Flesh – Citadel – 29-31
Steps:
Apply a fairly diluted base of Basic Skin Tone to start building skin texture.
Add selective highlights with Light Flesh.
Apply a wash of Fyreslayer Flesh mixed with medium and well diluted.
Mouth and Eyes
Paint:
- Volupus Pink – Citadel – 29-14
Step:
Apply a wash of Volupus Pink in the mouth and around the eyes.
Claws
Paints:
- Cold Corpse Blue – Two Thin Coats – 10049
- Green Sky – AK Interactive – AK11134
- Nuln Oil – Citadel Classic – 24-14
Steps:
Basecoat with Cold Corpse Blue.
Highlight with a mix of Cold Corpse Blue and Green Sky.
Apply a wash of Nuln Oil.
Eyes and Buboes
Paints:
- Light Flesh – AK Interactive – AK11050
- Fluorescent Red – Vallejo – 72.157
Steps:
Basecoat with Light Flesh.
Apply diluted Fluorescent Red in several layers if needed.
Teeth
Paints:
- Agrax Earthshade – Citadel Classic – 24-15
- Light Flesh – AK Interactive – AK11050
Steps:
Basecoat with Light Flesh.
Apply a wash of Agrax Earthshade.
Base
Paints:
- Luxion Purple – Citadel – 29-63
- Volupus Pink – Citadel – 29-14
- Carcharodon Grey – Two Thin Coats – 10023
- Light Flesh – AK Interactive – AK11050
- Fluorescent Red – Vallejo – 72.157
Steps:
Apply Luxion Purple on the rocks.
Apply Volupus Pink on the creep, blending slightly while still wet.
Edge highlight with Carcharodon Grey.
For the buboes: base with Light Flesh, then Fluorescent Red, then a mix of both.
All that’s left is to apply this recipe across your entire army for a cohesive and effective result. The base really adds something special for Zergs, with an original look that enhances the organic feel of the whole army.
