Hello everyone,

We’re starting Chapter 5 of our series. After covering combat actions in the previous chapter, we’ll now take a look at how Wounds are allocated. Unlike Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3 and Chapter 4, which we recommend reading beforehand, this chapter is shorter and easier to grasp, as most of the core rules have already been covered.

Allocating Wounds and Managing Casualties in Conquest

In Conquest, Wounds are not assigned directly to a Regiment but instead accumulate in a pool called the Wound Pool. Once this pool is determined, Wounds are allocated one by one to the Regiment’s Stands, starting with those in the rear rank that have already taken damage, while Characters are ignored at first.

When a Stand reaches its Wounds threshold, it is destroyed and immediately removed from the battlefield as a casualty. Allocation alternates between the outermost Stands of the Regiment to limit disruption and tries to preserve as many engaged Stands as possible. Once all Wounds have been assigned and casualties removed, the Regiment must take Morale Tests, with the number of tests equal to the total number of Wounds suffered.

Healing and Returning to Play

Some rules allow healing of wounds. Healing points are first used to remove wounds from Characters, then from wounded Stands, and finally to restore lost Stands, while respecting formation constraints and each Stand’s characteristics.

A restored Stand returns with some of its wounds, and enough healing points are needed for it to rejoin the battle.

And that’s it! As mentioned earlier, this chapter is quite brief and won’t confuse experienced wargamers, since the mechanics are similar to many other games.

The morale test was briefly mentioned, and as you can see, it seems fairly simple at first glance. We will go into more detail in the next chapter. We must admit, it feels a bit strange to offer you such a short article, but don’t worry, we’ll be back very soon with even more content!
